This prototype device was a specially adapted Motorola Timeport device with a unique battery cover featuring a smart card reader to be used for m-commerce trials. The battery cover was manufactured in Scotland (see below). Motorola was active in this area and had also experimented with a smart card reader on the Motorola StarTAC D which was developed around the same period.
