When it was launched, the HD7 was HTC’s flagship device running Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7. It was positioned as the premier Windows Phone 7 device among the 10 phones from multiple manufacturers that were unveiled when the operating system was announced by Microsoft at an event in New York in October 2010. Exclusive deals to range the device were made with several operators around the world, including Bouygues Telecom in France, O2 in Germany and the UK, and T-Mobile USA. The 4.3-inch screen on the HD7 was the largest of the 10 Windows Phone 7 launch devices and the phone was positioned as a "cinema in your pocket". This was further underlined by the neatly designed kickstand on the back of the device. The inclusion of a dual-LED flash with a five-megapixel camera emphasised the importance of video capture. It supports the recording of 720p HD video.
