Features

The HTC Excalibur (model number: S620) was based on the Microsoft Windows Phone Smartphone Edition operating system. This was designed specifically for a non-touchscreen interface which was quite a departure for Microsoft given its previous focus on touch screen devices. The Excalibur was designed to be a competitor to BlackBerry devices which were highly successful at the time. To compete with the jog wheel on the side a BlackBerry, HTC added a capacitive slider strip called JOGGR to the side of the Excalibur. HTC’s device was well-received both with operators and within HTC, however the capacitive strip on the side of the Excalibur was considered too sensitive, and customer feedback was not positive. As a result, the next device in the series, the HTC S630, replaced the capacitive slider with a rocker button for scrolling through email.
