Features

The HP Elite X3 is widely considered to be the last ever Windows Phone device manufactured. It used the Windows 10 Phone operating system and was described as bridging “phablet, laptop and desktop use cases from a single computing device while enabling users to run key productivity apps across these different experiences seamlessly.” It had a 5.96-inch screen, a 16-megapixel camera and front facing speakers tuned by Bang and Olufson. The phone, which was designed specifically for business users, was built around Microsoft’s “Continuum” in Windows 10. It could be used either as a phone, a laptop via the "Mobile Extender", which had a keyboard and 12.5-inch screen, or a desktop PC via a “Desk Dock” which had a DisplayPort for external monitor support, two USB-A and a USB-C ports and a wired Ethernet port to provide connectivity when used at a desk. Although the Elite X3 got a very positive reception when it was launched the Mobile World Congress show, it was not a commercial success given the poor reputation of Windows as a mobile phone software platform. HP eventually abandoned the Elite X3 in 2019 after it become clear Microsoft had lost interest in mobile phones.
