When Samsung introduced the Galaxy A5 (2015) it claimed it was the company’s slimmest smartphone to date at just 6.7mm. It featured a full metal unibody design and the company described it as being “a refined, trendy design” that would “empower younger consumers to quickly and easily capture meaningful moments, connect to social media and share their daily lives.” The phone was available in a variety of colours including pearl white, midnight black, platinum silver, soft pink, light blue and champagne gold. Samsung said this was “to accommodate the personal style and preference of diverse users”. The phone in the Mobile Phone Museum collection is the midnight black variant. With a five-megapixel front-facing camera, Samsung hoped it would appeal to young users keen to capture selfies pictures. The company offered a range of “innovative photo-taking features” such as wide selfies, palm selfies and beauty face features. It also had a rear-cam selfie capability that let users capture selfies on the higher resolution rear-facing camera by automatically detecting and focusing on a person’s face. The model number for this phone was SM-A500FU.
