When it was launched, the Nokia 7070 Prism was described as being “stylish with a fold design that sets it apart”. To long-time Nokia observers there was a certain amount of irony to this statement, given that several years before, in 2004, executive vice president Anssi Vanjoki had dismissed flip phones stating that Nokia’s designers would have to come up with something more than “silver clamshell phones" adding he thought the designers needed to "aim a little higher”. Perhaps the distinctive folding design of the 7070 Prism which had geometric patterns and external light effects, did offer something more interesting. It should also be noted that this was far from being Nokia’s first clamshell phone – it had produced several by this point. Nokia claimed that the device was “targeted at people who express their personality through their mobile phone”. The phone offered personalized content, including themes and wallpapers, and MP3-grade ringtones. It also had a voice recorder and integrated hands-free speaker. However, in the end, the price of the 7070 Prism was probably the most notable aspect of the product, with an estimated retail price of just €50 at launch.
